The Néstor Museum, which houses the work of the artist Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre, opened its doors for the first time in the capital of Gran Canaria in 1956. The museum is located in the Pueblo Canario neighbourhood, Néstor’s brainchild, adjacent to Doramas Park, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre, as well as being a leading figure of the European symbolist and modernist movements, is an essential part of the culture of the Canary Islands for his contribution and effort to create an indigenous artistic expression. He studied ethnography and was keenly interested in architecture. He has without doubt played a major role in shaping the culture of the Canary Islands, as we know it today.
