You'll always have charming corners to discover in Gran Canaria, one of them is San Francisco, in Telde.
Tejeda, still an unfamiliar town to many, has a population of two thousand inhabitants. It is located in the centre of the island, and its volcanic origin makes it truly breathtaking. The most representative symbols of Gran Canaria are right here: Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga. In addition, Tejada has been the first town of the Canary Islands to be appointed: "The most beautiful town of Spain" in 2016.
Its significant natural heritage it is surrounded by ravines set deep among great mountains. The great writer Miguel de Unamuno was struck with this landscape, calling it "Fossilized Storm".
The town lies in the basin of a volcanic crater, which originated when the vault of a magmatic bag collapsed. It is a very charming town of white houses and lush almond trees, especially when they burst into bloom.
One of the places of interest is Los Llanos de la Pez, a large area of pine grove which was reforested years ago, and nowadays a representative place of leisure in Gran Canaria’s nature, with camping areas, cabins, restaurants, shelter ... It is one of the places where many islanders come to enjoy family weekends.
The most popular site of this municipality is La Cruz de Tejeda. A point from which you can perfectly see a broad extension of the island on clear days, as well as the Teide volcano, on the island of Tenerife. It is an amazing and sharp view of the Canary Islands.
From here, you can hike to the Natural Monuments of Roque Nublo, one of the symbols of the island and the place where natives used to worship their deities; and Roque Bentayga, a great spot to observe the stars and the moon. Lovers of nature, archaeology and astronomy, see this place as one of the most recommended in the country to be connected to the world and the outer space.
Tejeda offers a network of trails rehabilitated and perfectly prepared for walkers and hikers. The most travelled route is the one that goes from the town of Tejeda to the Roque Nublo. It is a must hike with some remarkable landscapes along the way.
In addition to all the above, Tejada was appointed as the 2016’ Rural Wonder of Spain.
