Gran Canaria is particularly characterized by its climatic and geographic diversity.
Las Canteras Beach
Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is probably, together with the Dunes of Maspalomas, the most iconic beach on the island.
Integrated in the city, this urban beach has an extension of 3 kilometers long in which we can find an excellent walk full of restaurants, terraces and services of all kinds to enjoy the wonderful climate of the island.
The beach is protected by a natural bar of sandstone and reef that at low tide is possible to discover, as it is located parallel to the shore. "La barra”, as it is usually known, covers about two thirds of the beach and helps making the current of the beach always soft and ideal for bathing.
There is Always Room for Surf
And it is precisely the only third that is not occupied in parallel with “la barra” where La Cicer is located.
The last of the beaches that make up Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Its name comes from an old power station that was located in the area and is now the most sporting area of the capital's coast.
Surfers come since the 70’s, attracted by the waves and the excellent atmosphere in the area.
It is also common to see beach soccer matches on the shore when low tide at the end of the day, leaving a beautiful picture worthy of the best painting.
And at the end of the beach is the imposing Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
The best tribute that could have been paid to the Gran Canarian tenor and in which important concerts and events of various kinds are held.
The sand is becoming increasingly golden, allowing us to enjoy areas that are famous for most inhabitants of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria:
La Peña la Vieja, traditional hangout place for young people from Gran Canaria, where a famous ice cream parlor is still housed, which inherits the same name as the area.
Playa Chica is the most familiar area of the beach. Here the current is usually quieter and the golden sand makes this corner of Las Canteras the perfect place to go with children to the beach.
Playa Grande, as its name suggests, is one of the largest parts of the beach and the busiest area on summer days.
La Puntilla, its seafaring soul with restaurants and bars on the beach is ideal for a day of vacation.
All of this along the Las Canteras Avenue, which has gradually become a popular route for runners and athletes who find in this area the perfect conditions for outdoor training.
