Thanks to its magnificent temperatures, Gran Canaria is a unique European tourist destination
The island of Gran Canaria -Canary Islands- is one of Europe's key tourist destinations as it has all-year-round exceptional temperatures, and so, it is an outstanding place to visit during the winter season.
Thanks to these mild temperatures, the Canary islands have always been known as "the islands of eternal spring", and they are, indeed: during the summer season temperatures in the Canary Islands do not rise as much as in some other places of Southern Europe and, in winter, when the rest of Europe is freezing cold the Canary Islands are as fortunate as enjoying soft winters under the sun, especially in areas such as the south of Gran Canaria, like Maspalomas.
Gran Canaria's average annual temperature is 21°C, nearly always 20°C in winter and 26°C in summer.
Because of our latitude, Gran Canaria should have a drier and more arid climate. Nevertheless, thanks to our island's geographic status, we are surrounded by sea as well as having tall mountain peaks so there are areas with large thermal contrasts and conditions; hence the term "miniature continent" which implies that you can go from a wet and foggy forest to a sunny beach on the south coast of the island in a matter of no more than a dozen kilometres.
The thermal contrast, both with other parts of the island and, of course, with the rest of Europe is greater during the winter months, so it is an ideal time to visit our hotels in the south of Gran Canaria.
