Camel ride in the Maspalomas Dunes

24 Jan 2023

Are you visiting Maspalomas? Discover it on the back of a camel and explore the Dunes.

The best memories we can take away from our holidays are the experiences we have with our family, friends or partner. Beyond the traditional experiences that Gran Canaria offers, such as hiking, kayaking or boat trips, we can find other types of experiences, such as camel rides in the Maspalomas Dunes.

Come and feel like a real explorer on a camel safari and enjoy a pleasant ride through the spectacular desert landscapes of the Maspalomas Dunes.

Discover the best kept secrets of the Maspalomas Dunes on camel back

Once you get on a camel, an unforgettable experience begins. These animals are perfectly prepared to adapt to arid environments such as the Maspalomas Dunes.

This magical natural area, declared an environmental heritage site, is made up of sand dunes, 6 kilometres long and 500 metres wide, some of which are over 60 metres high.

The area stretches from the Maspalomas lighthouse to Playa del Inglés and the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve is divided into three different ecosystems: an oasis, a palm grove and a saltwater pond (la Charca de Maspalomas).

One of the great attractions that you can observe is how the mounds of sand periodically change their position according to the wind conditions. Thanks to this effect, you’ll have the sensation of being in a real desert without leaving the island.

How to get to the Maspalomas Dunes

From anywhere near the surroundings of Maspalomas, Meloneras or Playa del Inglés, you can reach the dunes on foot or by bicycle. At Dunas Hotels & Resorts we have several accommodations next to the Maspalomas Dunes, such as the Maspalomas Resort, an idyllic bungalow complex, or the Hotel Suites & Villas located next to the Special Nature Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes and the exclusive Tony Gallardo Park.

However, if you’re coming from further afield, such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or the north of the island, you can get there by car via the GC-1, taking exit number 45 in the direction of the Maspalomas Lighthouse.

If you prefer to travel by public transport, Global has several lines that leave you in the vicinity.

Here are the departure points, lines and timetables:

- Las Palmas-Faro de Maspalomas: you can choose line 30, line 05 or line 50.
- Telde-Faro de Maspalomas: choose between line 90 and line 36.
- San Agustín-Playa del Inglés-Faro de Maspalomas: line 29, line 32, line 33 and line 39.
