Ten curiosities of the Canary Islands

In the Agaete valley you will find the factory and the land that gives the beans of the only coffee produced in Spain and Europe. Apart from being the only producers, it is also one of the best coffees in the world, being a product characterised by its excellent aroma and flavour, thanks to a coffee bean that is born in the excellent climatic conditions of a municipality to the north of Gran Canaria.

Agaete is a northern town, which encompasses a series of optimal characteristics for coffee production since the arid and humid climates coexist and are mixed by the ravines that unify the coast with the mountains. Perfect conditions for a product famous by the best communities of coffee lovers in the world.

Teide: the highest peak in Spain

The Teide is located on the island of Tenerife. A majestic dormant volcano that serves as a natural monument for all the Canary Islands. A place that hosts a Natural Park full of beauty such as Las Cañadas del Teide, where the richness of the volcanic soil has given rise to a unique native flora, giving rise to landscapes worthy of the best photographs.

At 3,718 metres, the Teide is the highest peak in Spain and this high-altitude area can be reached throughout some access points that attract thousands of tourists every year.

Roque de los Muchachos: from the Canary Islands to space

The island of La Palma hides a unique place to see the stars and where one of the most important space observatories in the world is located. 

The Canary Islands and NASA joined forces to study the universe in a place 2,426 meters above sea level where the skies are ideal for investigating outer space.

Europe’s oldest rum factory

The Arehucas rum factory was opened in 1892, as rum (made with sugar cane and served mainly with ice and coke) is the drink that unites all the people of Gran Canaria.

This building was a boost for the municipality of Arucas, as a large part of the population saw how the town prospered around the success of a brand that has established itself as a must in many of the archipelago’s festivals. 

Currently, it is the oldest and still in operation rum factory in Europe. A fact that without a doubt is one of the curiosities of the Canary Islands.

The best carnival in the world
