What's so special about Maspalomas Carnival?
The Carnival of Maspalomas will be a colourful and costumed event in the most touristic area of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana during those 10 days. This year this festivity will have the theme of "Television Memories". The aim is to create a festive atmosphere so that both visitors and residents can remember the old days.
The festival features numerous events that may vary from one year to the next. The Gran Cabalgata, which runs through the streets of Playa del Inglés and ends at the emblematic Yumbo Shopping Centre, is the most important and multitudinous event of the whole programme.
Another essential event in this carnival is the Drag Queen Gala, which has a great line-up with some of the best "drags" of the island, something that gives great notoriety and prestige to the gala.
The drag queens are drag artists who perform unique shows with choreography, music, and interpretations that get the audience off their seats, not only because of the beauty of the show, but also because of the difficulty involved in performing the movements and wearing the themed costumes, which are, to say the least, eye-catching.
Also, one of the traditional events that always attracts a large audience are the mogollones. These are parties with live music made for dancing and having fun all night long. They’re held in the lower area of the Yumbo Shopping Centre.
