This island has been attracting many visitors from very different countries around the world due to its unmatched weather, food and, among all, its out-of-this-world beaches. Gran Canaria’s volcanic origin can be noticed in every grain of sand, with many different colours and sizes.

We can find a great diversity of beaches – from the golden sands bathed by crystalline waters to the black sands next to the impressive and fierce Atlantic Ocean. So, if you are looking for an excellent way to spend a few summer days on this island, this article about Gran Canaria’s beautiful beaches is for you.

We’ll show you the most spectacular beaches, along with interesting things that will give you a plus during your vacation on the island. Gran Canaria is not only sand, sun and sea, as the island is full of excellent hotels, monuments, dream places and unique moments that will make your stay on the island an unforgettable experience.

So, let's get started!

Beautiful beaches in Gran Canaria

As mentioned above, Gran Canaria is full of unique places. The diversity of its microclimates means that each area of the island has a totally different environment from the previous one. Its volcanic orography, made up of a multitude of ravines, begins at the summits of the island: the Pico de las Nieves and the Roque Nublo.

These natural monuments allow us to enjoy a varied climate and experience very different sensations between beaches separated by a few kilometres, and even on the same beach. Do you want to know them? We won't make you wait any longer.

1. Las Canteras

Las Canteras is not only one of the most beautiful beaches of Gran Canaria, but it is also the summer resort of numerous families in the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There are many restaurants around, so you will discover the quality of Canarian products and the multiculturalism that embraces the area.

If you decide to stroll along its more than 3 kilometres long promenade, we recommend starting at the touristic spot of La Puntilla, an area of golden sand full of life with a large number of shops and restaurants.

Going west we’ll pass through Playa Chica and Peña la Vieja until we get to the area of La Cícer. Here, the sand becomes black and everyday surfers have a date with the waves under the watch of the impressive Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, an emblematic monument that lights the way from the north of the island to the whole of Las Canteras.

2. Maspalomas

A natural reserve, a magical place, an ocean of golden waves located in the south of Gran Canaria. For a large part of the year, the sun provides an average yearly temperatures of around 24º.

You will be able to go deeper into them and take really impressive photos thanks to one of the most spectacular sunsets in the world, where the arrival of darkness dyes the sky with blue, reddish and purple colours, a majestic image that you won’t forget.

3. Güigüi

You’ll get to this place just to realize that its fame is well earned, as is one of the most beautiful virgin beaches in the Canary Islands. Güigüi is a true example that the most amazing things on the planet are hidden.

We say this because to access this beach you will have to enjoy an interesting hiking route that ends in this beautiful beach of dark sand and crystal clear waters or get by boat from the municipalities of La Aldea de San Nicolás or Mogán. We highly recommend it if you have the chance to discover it.

4. Playa del Inglés

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Gran Canaria and, undoubtedly, one of the most famous due to its location next to the Maspalomas Dunes. It’s one of the most famous tourist destinations on the island. In addition, we recommend the quiet beach of San Agustín next to it, where you can see the best beachfront hotel in the area and a tribute to calm and quality: Don Gregory by Dunas.

5. Amadores

Finally, another choice is this paradisiacal beach located in the municipality of Mogán, also in the south of Gran Canaria, where you can enjoy the splendour of golden sand and crystal clear waters. A destination that we recommend if you want to spend a full day on a beach that will remind you of the Caribbean.
