Lately, the Canary Islands and its landscapes are part of not only national but also international major film productions.

Landscapes worthy of documentaries, films and fully qualified to be part of any worldwide stage. As it is well known, the different islands in the archipelago offer a wide variety of landscapes and potentials, so each one of them has a singular feature that has made them special for some outstanding screenplays of the decade.
Even though since the beginning of 1900 there have been many film productions, in the past years this activity has been reinforced in the Canary Islands. In fact, many of the inhabitants of the island have been part of these productions, whether working as extra, helping in the production areas, or directly as part of the technical team of major production companies.
The main reasons behind this are the landscapes and great weather, as millions of tourists have already seen; but also the tax incentives offered by the Canary Islands Parliament so that the film industry can be highly developed.

Palmeras en la Nieve – Palm trees in the snow -
It is a Spanish film based on the novel by Luz Gabás, and which has had great success in cinemas. The main stage of this story is set in La Finca de Osorio, a truly charming place in the central part of the island.
El Niño - The boy -
A Spanish production, starring Luis Tosar filmed in different locations around Gran Canaria.
The amazing landscapes of the island not only serve as inspiration to idyllic screenplays but also to terror sagas like REC 4. They chose several scenarios in Gran Canaria, most of them in the port area of Gran Canaria, where there are large berthed ships.
Fast & Furious 6
This well-known international production, which already has seven films, used different exterior locations of the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria for the persecutions shots. Most of them filmed on the northern part of the island.
The inner island
Starring Geraldine Chaplin, this story shows a different view of the city of Las Palmas. The diversity of scenarios from the featured characters and actors discovers some unknown places of the capital of the island for many of the tourists who come to spend their holidays to Gran Canaria.
This great American production, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, will be released on November 23rd 2016, and it has been this summer’s great attraction on the island. It is a romantic thriller that features an original story. It is a real deal since millions of viewers will see many different locations of Gran Canaria from the cinema or their own homes. For more than forty-five days, a team of a hundred people have been shooting in many settings of the island.
As you can see, there are many examples of big films shot and produced in Gran Canaria. This is good not only for the island’s economy and audiovisual production sector, but also to increase the number of visitors that come to discover the charms of the Canary Islands.
