The Epiphany Parade, called “Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos“, is the highlight of the Christmas season on Gran Canaria and, because of its long tradition in Spain, it is considered the real Christmas. On this particular day, January 5th, locals as well as visitors from all over the world come together, especially in Las Palmas, San Fernando de Maspalomas, and Vecindario, to await the arrival of the Three Wise Men, Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar, on their camels.
With a colorful welcome ceremony and a following parade, this spectacle reminds of a mixture of religious and carnival celebrations, and takes place on the Epiphany eve in nearly all municipalities of Gran Canaria. This is a wonderful tradition and a marvelous end of a fascinating Christmas time on Gran Canaria that was already heralded with the ceremonial opening of the first Christmas market on November 25th 2012 in the Yumbo shopping centre in Playa del Inglés. This market will be open until January 6th 2013 and daily offers shows and entertainment for children.
Enjoy an extraordinary and peaceful Christmas time under the sun and palm trees of Gran Canaria that will surely enchant you.
