Roque Nublo is a true Natures sculpture on the summits of Gran Canaria. It is one of the symbols of this Canary Island. When guests who stay with us at Dunas Hotels & Resorts in the south of Gran Canaria ask about tours to the peaks of the island, we always recommend a visit to this iconic place.
Roque Nublo is a monolith of volcanic origin that rises 80 meters above its base and it is located in the town of Tejeda. The Roque rises 1813 meters above sea level (the highest altitude of the island of Gran Canaria is El Pico de las Nieves 1949 meters above sea level, close to Roque Nublo). El Roque and its surroundings, was an area frequented by the aboriginals as a place of worship. Here you can also discover other unique formations such as El Roque de la Rana (next to Roque Nublo) and Roque del Fraile.
To enjoy Roque Nublo in all its majesty, you have to hike for an hour following the existing path which goes right to the foot of the Roque. During the hike you will enjoy the fauna of the area, such as the kestrel, as well as the Canary native flora. Furthermore, if your visit coincides with the beginning of the year and spring, youll also enjoy the splendid spectacle of the almond blossom, an area full of almond trees. And once you reach the summit, you can fill your senses with the magnificent views of the island.
If you are still around later on in the day, the sunset will truly leave you speechless. Just remember to be equipped with appropriate footwear, a good jacket (temperatures drop drastically after sunset) and flashlights for the descent after the sunset.
If you are an adventurer, come and discover Roque Nublo located in Tejeda, the guardian of Gran Canaria.
