Every year around Christmas time a proper competition on the Canary Islands takes place to see who draws up the most beautiful Christmas crib. In all parts of the island, the birth of Jesus is shown in the form of magnificent and impressive cribs, which are admired not only by tourists but also by locals.
One of the most outstanding events is the crib in the park San Telmo in Las Palmas which is one of the most important activities in the Christmas program of the capital. In the last six years, this masterpiece was created by Fernando Benítez in Hebrew-Palestinian style. It consists of more than 500 pieces, spread over an area of more than 40 square meters. This year the exhibition of the crib will take place from the 16th of December 2011 to the 8th of January 2012.
Another highlight is the crib at Playa de las Canteras, which entirely consists of sand.
Therefore, every year experts for sand sculptures from all over the world come to Las Palmas in order to represent the biblical story in the form of impressive sculptures with 250 tons of sand. Do not miss the opportunity to experience this unforgettable Christmas tradition of Gran Canaria! We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
