As every year in February on Gran Canaria, you can observe a wonderful nature phenomenon: the blossom of the almond trees.
This year, besides, we want to offer you practical advices such as recommendable tours to townships and villages.
Especially in the townships of Tejeda, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Valsequillo, Artenara and furthermore in the canyon of Guayadeque, there you can see more of almond trees and this means the most beautiful blaze of colors to gaze at.
Due to the partial heavy rainfall of the last weeks (the level of water of many of the barrier lakes has reached a new record height), much of the center of the island not only shines in a bright green, but the almond blossom pink tone contributes to this "celebration of nature".
This is not all, lots of other plants are also in blossom – a true spectacle of color is waiting for you in the mountains of Gran Canaria.
Highlight of the blossom of almonds is certainly the “Fiesta del almendro en Flor” in Tejeda, where you can enjoy Canarian music and different products made of almonds. This year the festival in Valsequillo takes place the weekend between 11th and 13th February.
There are two main routs to see the blossom of almonds on Gran Canaria: The first alternative starts at Telde. It passes through the villages of Valsequillo, Tenteniguada, San Mateo and ends in Tejeda.
The second alternative starts directly at Playa Inglés and goes to San Bartolome de Tirajana to the centre of the island. The destination is also the Mecca of the Canarian blossom of almonds: the volcanic crater of Tejeda. We created a map for you where you can see the two routes in detail.
Maybe you want to come back to one of our establishments in Gran Canaria for the harvest of the almonds that are now flourishing? Then you should visit us again at the end of August and in September!
