Painted Cave in Galdar

In addition to the beaches and pleasant temperatures during the whole year, the Canary Islands are famous for their history. The archeological Museum Park Cueva Pintada of Galdár is one of the most imposing museums. Here the visitors can get to know everything about the Aborigines who lived on Gran Canaria during the sixteen century, before the Spanish settled down on this land.
The visit of the archeological Museum Park Cueva Pintada includes a 3D video highlighting the pre-Hispanic epoch and the conquest of Gran Canaria, permanent exhibition halls with items of the archeology site and a tour through the remains of one of the most important native colonies of our island.

The most interesting place of the aborigine village to visit is the Cueva Pintada: a hall whose walls show plenty of geometrical drawings. According to archeologists this kind of sings could represent a calendar.

The Archeological Museum and Park Cueva Pintada re-opened on 26th of July 2006, after a break of 20 years due to renovation works of the site.
