We recommend you to visit the Botanical Garden of Gran Canaria to get to know the botanical richness of our region. The Botanical Garden Viera y Clavijo is the biggest Botanical Garden of Spain and has more than 27 hectar to descover. At the beginning of the 50s, the Swedish botanist Eric Ragnor Sventenius, who had been living on the island for several years, suggested the construction of such a garden to the principal mayor of the town.
The idea was to create a place to show the botanical resources of the island. Today the botanical garden is a complex and modern centre, that enables you to get to know the rich endemic flora of Gran Canaria. In the botanical garden you can see plants, that are in danger, the vegetation of different zones, for example of the lower areas and of the coasts, of forests, pine forests and others. Moreover, you can see scientific publications and receive educative information material. The botanical garden is doubtless a paradise for all lovers of botanic and nature.
