The island of Fuerteventura, with an area of 1658 square kilometres, is the second largest in the Canary Islands archipelago. It forms part of an alignment of over 200km that begins in the isle of Alegranza, to the north of Lanzarote and extends to within almost 20km south of Jandía Point, making up the largest continental platform in the Canary Islands. The island is made up of six municipalities: Antigua, Betancuria, La Oliva, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario and Tuineje. The capital is Puerto del Rosario.
The island of Fuerteventura with its wonderful white-sandy beaches and the crystal clear water competes with other dream beaches all over the world. The largest beaches of the Canary Islands are located in the south, starting in Costa Calma, via Esquinzo-Butiholnde, Morro Jable and Puertito de la Cruz to Jandía, to the regions of Cofete and Barlovento. In the north the island offers amazing beaches as well, like the large beach of Corralejo with its dunes in the back or in the northeast the beach of Cotillo and lots of beaches and bays which are well known by surfers.
For guests, who like to combine holidays with sports activities, there are hotels, which offer lots of sports and have special sport centres, like e. g. golf, tennis, paddle, sailing, windsurfing…. For the adventurous guests there are professional centres which are specialised in sports of risk, like surfing or Kite surfing.
In Fuerteventura, not only will you be able to enjoy its beaches, but you will also find a wide range of cultural attractions, such as its museums, religious architecture and local crafts, as well as local festivities in which to discover traditional music and dances.
Fuerteventura offers everything, especially for families: Culture and Leisure Park Baku, Karting Club “Ocios del Sur”, Oasis Park, Aquarium Tarajalejo and much more.
Fuerteventura’s gastronomy comes from the inventiveness of generations of islanders that originally inhabited the island. It was from this source that the extremely simple but flavoursome fare took form. A cuisine with two main ingredients: goats and fish. From the ocean are the sea bass, the eels, groupers and red mullet.
